August 17, 2017:  Twenty-two Rotarians and guests (Marty Blessing, prospective member and Dan Mahoney’s guest, Scott Frost) were present as Steven V. Turner spoke about the PA Alliance Against Trafficking in Humans: Route 15 Project. An attorney, retired after 20 plus years as a Prosecutor for the state, and having been a volunteer with the YWCA of Greater Harrisburg for over a decade, Steve is the Crisis Advocate Coordinator, Training Specialist at the Y. The YWCA is one of six in the alliance of agencies involved with the PAATH 15 program. Dottie Anderson was the host for this first program on Toby’s presidential area of focus.

Steve was very effective in presenting the need for the services provided to victims of sex trafficking, sharing stories of both victims and perpetrators. He spoke about the universal number that anyone can call, in addition to 911, if you suspect something is amiss – 1-888-373-7888 is accessible in 170 languages, 24 hours a day to provide referrals and information for either victims or those with concerns.

 

Announcements: John Fischer has brochures for the 9/11 golf tournament and will begin to circulate a signup sheet for volunteers next week.*Toby picked up our South Korean exchange student at the airport yesterday and will bring her to next week’s meeting. Raven Rudnitsky is serving as her counselor while she is with us.**2018 Mallet Madness date is set – June 9 – Save the date.***Art Bowen announced that the Golf Ball Drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. on 10/14 and he expects tickets for sale will be available within the week.***Coordinator needed for Market Street Festival – Dave Lawer will organize but is unable to be present on the day of the event.****Due to Jared Roush’s Leave of Absence, we are in need of a Community Service Director to serve for 6 months.*****Cheryl Stumpf requests that you let her know if you have signed up to help on move in day at SU – stumpf@susqu.edu  so she knows who is planning to attend.

 

International Service: Director Konrad Kempfe acquainted us with the responsibilities of this avenue of service. We have funds budgeted to continue support of the Wheelchair project, Shelterbox, and clean water project.

August 31 – Robert Grayston will speak about economic opportunities in the Selinsgrove area, Host is Charlie McCuen. New members Marty Blessing and Malcolm Derk will be installed. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Sept. 7 – Rick Maloyed of Edwards Moving and Rigging (business that has moved large objects for Shamokin Dam project) will be the speaker, Host is Wes Knapp. SVCC, 11:45 a.m. Board Meeting precedes at 11 a.m.

Sept. 14 – Kara Seesholtz of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation will be the speaker, Art Bowen is the host. SVCC, 11:45 a.m. Mike Flock will serve as Newsletter Editor.

Sept. 21 – District Governor Michael Hornby’s official visit to the Club. Preceded by a Board of Directors Meeting with the DG at 10:45 a.m. SVCC, 11:45 a.m. John Stokinger will serve as Newsletter Editor.
