November 2, 2017: Twenty-seven Rotarians and guests (Art Bowen’s brother Chuck and wife, and Danielle Little’s co-worker, Heather) were present as new members Marty Blessing and Malcolm Derk presented their classification talks. Don Summers was the host. Marty, an SU graduate, was born in Mass., but lived in several additional states and in Germany because of her father’s occupation, eventually graduating from high school in New Jersey. She is the widow of Political Science Professor, James Blessing and was employed for over 40 years as an administrative assistant in Enrollment Management at Susquehanna. Retired, she is engaged in many activities in addition to playing lots of bridge. She is Treasurer of the REC Board, VP of the SSDC Board, and a Trustee of the Snyder County Historical Society.  Malcolm, also an SU graduate, is currently in his third term as a Snyder County Commissioner and he shared information about his work as Chair of the Prison Board and with merging the Union and Snyder County 911 centers.  In addition, he works at SU as the Grants and Foundation and he shared information about that work. A lifelong resident of Freeberg, Malcolm is married and has two young sons.  The Club is delighted to have both Marty and Malcolm as members. Reading of the slate for 2018-19 officers and directors is delayed until next week. A Board Meeting preceded regular meeting.

 

Announcements: Sarah Manaval is leading participation in Tree Fest again this year – selection is a book based on the Emoji movie.* 2018 Mallet Madness date is set – June 9 – Save the date.*Golf Ball Drop date is set for Oct. 20, 2018 at noon, with possibility of lunch being held at the same time. Tickets will be available for sale before the holidays so people can use them as presents and we are able to get to the point of selling all 1000 tickets.**Per Marv Rudnitsky, our exchange student is doing well and will be attending a district conference in mid Nov. Help may be needed to provide transportation. He will be getting committee together to interview two potential outbound exchange students.***Konrad Kempfe is thanked for coordinating efforts related to DG challenge to plant a tree and a thank you from the Arbor Day Foundation was circulated.****Best wishes to John Stokinger for speedy recovery from hip replacement surgery.

Nov. 16 – Annual Meeting and Election of Officers and Directors for 2018-19. Second reading of slate and call for nominations from the floor precedes election. Discussion planned about potential changes to the Club Bylaws to allow for Corporate and Partner memberships. President Toby Skinner presides. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
