January 25, 2018: Fifty Rotarians, Young Farmers, partners, and guests were present as host Sarah Manevel presided at the annual Urban/Rural Night Dinner at Christ Community Church. The speaker was the Pennsylvania FFA President, Nathan Moyer. Nathan is a 2017 Selinsgrove High School Graduate who was selected as one of seven statewide leaders of the PA FAA for the 2017-18 year. In order to serve in this position, Nathan has deferred college for a year, and will attend Penn State College Park in fall of 2018 as either a science, microbiology major in entomology, or as an Agriculture Education student. FAA, with 653,000 members is the largest youth-led organization in the country. Pennsylvania has 13,000 members in 150 Chapters. FFA seeks to provide for career success, leadership training (three different types of opportunities annually) and personal growth for high school students. Each member pursues an SAE (supervised agricultural experience) – Nathan’s project involved breeding cockroaches and reptiles, and working in animal rescue. He has become an accomplished public speaker and did an excellent job responding to some interesting questions about agriculture concerns. Attendees thank the Busy Bees from the church for the excellent chicken and waffles dinner. This was a special program enjoyed by all in attendance.
