Oct. 4, 2018:  Thirty plus Rotarians and guests were present for this special program featuring Dr. Denise Buuden-Potts, a Clinical Psychologist and Researcher on the topic of Treating PTSD and Sex Assault Trauma. Toby Skinner was the host. The Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories Protocol (RTM) works by reprogramming the neurological connection between the feeling center of the brain and specific traumatic memories. It is designed to take the dysfunctional emotions (fear, helplessness, horror) out of the traumatic event. Research has shown at minimum of 90% success rate. Currently training of other counselors and psychologists is being developed and underway to expand those who are certified to use this method.  The Research and Recognition Project is currently fully committed to ensuring an innovative and cost-effective treatment for individuals with PTS through the effective training and educating on the RTM model. Given that 20-22 suicides per day occur among vets who have PTSD, this is most certainly a worthy work. This is a method that eliminates the need for numerous medications frequently prescribed for sufferers of PTSD, and when successful eliminates recurring nightmares and flashbacks related to traumatic experiences. Guests in attendance included many who work within the therapy community here in the Susquehanna Valley such as Tony Butto from Courtyard Counseling and Sue Matthias of Transitions.

Additional guest was Dottie Anderson’s niece, Dr. Cathleen Ardrey.
