Nov. 29, 2018:Twenty Rotarians and guests (Cher Harpst and Rob Mordan from Career Link) were present to hear Justin Troup speak about the experiences that led to the founding of East Africa Coffee Company. Justin and his wife Katie have an adopted son from Uganda. He is now 14 and a U.S. Citizen. Through their church, Harvest Bible Chapel, they became involved in developing a congregation in Uganda, where Justin met Pastor Peter, a person who he describes as fighting for people who can’t fight for themselves. Justin saw things he couldn’t un-see as he learned about the practice of witch doctors sacrificing children and the results of that practice, including when it is botched. As there are no social services in Uganda, the work with victims of this and human trafficking is totally up to individual donations by people who care. One dollar for every pound of coffee sold goes directly to those efforts. Justin left his job in banking and is now a full time executive pastor at his church, taking care of all business operations. Each church that is developed includes a school for children and savings groups used to provide small loans to provide business opportunities in the community. This was a very inspiring presentation. Brian Neitz was the host.
