May 16, 2019: Thirty Rotarians and invited guests were present as host Dave Lawer introduced the 2019 Scholarship Recipients and Guidance Counselor Chris Lupolt. President Cheryl first acknowledged exchange student Antonin Gaitfait who will be returning to France in early June. Antonin thanked members for support during the year. He will return to France for his senior year and then hopes to attend University. The recipients of the 2019 Rotary Scholarship are Sarah Fravel (who will attend Gettysburg College as a biology major); Maddie Newell (who will attend Penn College and study surgical technology); Saramae Radel (who will attend Mansfield to study nutrition and play field hockey); and Jasmine Elsasser (who will attend Brigham Young in Utah to study Chemical Engineering). All four spoke well, sharing a bit about their activities, which, along with athletics, included music, both instrumental and vocal, and a wide rage of Clubs. A common theme was community service either thru Key Club and/or church. Chris Lupolt, at Dave’s invitation, spoke about the depth of this current senior class and thanked Rotary for its continued support of and recognition of students. Dave shared more information about the new Garman scholarships now available and thanked Carol Handlan and Pat Pinkowski for serving on the Scholarship Committee for the SACF.
Announcements: Remember to bring in batteries to fill the “Big Green Box” which enables recycling of non-rechargeable batteries. Please bring in batteries to be recycled in the plastic bags provided and place in the box that will be available at every meeting.* Dave Lawer circulated signup sheet for flag display at Rotary Field on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Cost is $20.**July 30 is Hot Dog night at the Gazebo – Melissa is asking for donation of hot dogs and buns and will be needing volunteers to sign up as we get closer to the date.***KEEP WORKING ON SPONSORSHIPS AND TEAMS FOR MALLET MADNESS – DATE IS APPROACHING RAPIDLY.
Sergeant at Arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines, (to the best of the editor’s ability to keep up) from two birthday “boys” – Malcolm Derk (bd, SU graduation, and guests) and John Stokinger; himself (scholarship recipients, Antonin, and Chris);Charlie McCuen (back and going on European Vacation); Mary Peterhaensel Bishop’s retreat and guests); Art Bowen (Antonin); Tom Gates (guests); Donna Schuck (guests and cruise with daughter); Dave Lawer (guests, Chris for all his help); Pat Pinkowski (guests and sun out); Cheryl Stumpf (Cassidy going to Roanoke, guests); Carol Handlan (SU graduates and guests, positive health reports re husband, sister and brother in law); and Earl Ferster (speakers, sunshine and +15).
