October 10, 2019 – 20 Rotarians were present to hear Javier Vidalia, Youth Program Director for the Regional Engagement Center, speak about his work. Marty Blessing was the host. Javier is originally from Argentina and found his way to PA through an AmeriCorps VISTA position at Susquehanna University. He now calls Selinsgrove home. Javier was named Youth Director at the Selinsgrove REC in July 2019. Javier informed Rotarians about current happenings at the REC such as the Drop-In program, Teen Leadership Club, Mentoring Program and T-Biz (teen business program). In the future REC will be working with other area agencies such as United Way and Milton Chamber of Commerce in creating a regional STEAM program. This will include 6 different modules for kids and adults to lean various skills (electronics, woodworking, computers, etc.) During 2019 Summer Camp there were over 50 children attending and served over 7,000 meals. The Summer Program is a 10-week program, Monday through Friday. Javier is always seeking volunteers, snack donations and financial support. Please always feel free to visit the REC to see what is happening to see if you would be interesting in attending any activities or provide volunteer support.

Announcements: Do use sale of Golf Ball Drop tickets as a way of increasing knowledge of club activities among non-members. Goal this year is to sell all 1000 tickets and do date have only sold half. Date of the drop is October 19. Carol will be emailing dates and times to sell tickets at Smoker’s Express in Selinsgrove. *Halloween Parade is Oct. 15 – sign-up sheet circulated for those who can participate. **John Stokinger announced that we have our second Little Green Box for recycling household batteries (thanks, Carol). 2019 Dictionary Project was a success! Kids were very grateful and excited to receive their very own dictionary (that they can keep!). Thank you to all who were involved in this community program.

Nov. 7 – TBA, Ken Wagner is the host. Second reading of Slate for 20-21 by the nominating committee. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Nov. 21 – John Fischer is both host and speaker on the topic of “A New Direction for Rotary’s Golf Classic Fundraiser. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
