The Selinsgrove Rotary Club hosted Benjamin Willard, Chief Financial Officer of Family Practice Center, PC. This large group of collaborating primary care physicians was started in 1973 by Dr. Charles Fasano. The Family Practice Centers have grown to 39 office locations in 12 central Pennsylvania counties. Willard talked about how they adjusted daily operations to deal with Covid 19 challenges. He also discussed the development of 110,000 square feet in the Susquehanna Valley Mall. This multi-use location will provide valley residents with access to a number of wellness services. The location will house specialty clinics, administrative offices, a laboratory and a partnership between them and Geisinger to provide urgent care. Dr. Irvin Wright, District Governor of Rotary District 7360 addressed Selinsgrove Rotarians. Dr. Wright is in the Bloomsburg Rotary Club and has been a Rotarian for 35 years. As District Governor he has the responsibility for oversight of 68 clubs across a vary large area. He has been visiting each of these clubs to deliver Rotary's theme this year of Rotary Opens Opportunities. He also discussed the challenges of Rotary during the Covid 19 pandemic. The Selinsgrove Rotary Club through the generosity of members raised $915 for the benefit of the Regional Engagement Center (REC) in Selinsgrove. The money will be used to provide food boxes to families in need in the Selinsgrove community. Andy Paladino, Store Director of the Selinsgrove Target addressed members of the Selinsgrove Rotary. The store opened in 2008 and continues to grow as other similar chain stores in the area have closed in recent years. As one of thirteen stores in the company's central Penna district, the local store has a staff of about 100 employees. Target's culture and operations revolve around providing excellent customer service and as an organization they have been leaders in the in the changing delivery of retail experiences for shoppers. The Nurse Family Partnership updated the Selinsgrove Rotary Club about their mission of helping first time mothers in 50 of the 67 counties of PA. NFP was founded in 1978 and is an evidence based program who has partnered locally with the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation. Nurses are assigned to clients and they meet as often as weekly with them though the child's first 21 months. The program is educational in nature and provides a wide range of support for first time mothers to become successful in parenting. Dr. John Pagana addressed the Selinsgrove Rotary Club about his work with A Community Clinic and how rewarding it has been to serve those who lack insurance or finances to receive timely medical care. Individuals, businesses and local hospitals have been very supportive of the clinic since it began. Dr. Pagana also spoke about Covi 19 and how deadly this virus can be for those with pre-existing health issues. He advised everyone to adhere to wearing masks in public and maintaining proper social distancing of six feet. Dr. Frank Jankowski, Superintendent of the Selinsgrove School District spoke to Selinsgrove Rotarians about the challenges of bringing students back to school amid the Covid 19 pandemic. Selinsgrove was the first school in the area to begin the school year. School administrators, teachers and community members participated in crafting an approach to delivering education under unique and unprecedented times. Key to this process was understanding and interpreting requirements, mandates and recommendations presented by the State. Dr. Jankowski stressed that there are many gray areas and uncertainties and that the district will deal with these while keeping education as the number one priority. Joanne Troutman, CEO and President of the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way spoke to Selinsgrove Rotarians about United Way efforts during the Coronavirus pandemic. To date with the aid of other funding sources they have distributed over $800,000 in grants to individuals and organizations throughout the valley. Troutman complimented the many the individuals, companies and foundations that immediately reached out to offer financial assistance to those who were negatively impacted by the pandemic. The United Way has organized distribution of supplies such as gloves, masks, wipes, bottled water and even an event that distributed 4,000 gallons of milk. Shawn Felty was inducted as the newest member of the Selinsgrove Rotary Club at a recent weekly meeting. Felty is a graduate of Selinsgrove High School and Wilkes University. He founded Sire Advertising in 2002, which is located in Downtown Selinsgrove. Felty has served on a number of local boards as a director and volunteer. Nicole Peterson, Food Security Coordinator for the Union-Snyder County Community Action Agency spoke to the Selinsgrove Rotary Club. She works with food pantries in Selinsgrove, McClure and Lewisburg to help identify and meet the needs of families who need food. Peterson noted that one of the hurdles for people in need is a lack of transportation to get to the food distribution sites. She is also working on establishing a hunger coalition for Snyder and Union counties to better coordinate efforts to meet the challenges of trying to address the food needs in both counties. The Selinsgrove Rotary Club recognized students identified as Young Americans in the Selinsgrove School District. Maddie Stebila participated in track and field and is chapter President of the Future Business Leaders of America club. She is planning on attending Millersville State University to study secondary education. Coy Bastian is in FBLA, president of the Spanish Club, plays football and wrestles. Charles "Bo" and Joan Fasold were honored by the Selinsgrove Rotary Club with the club's 36th Distinguished Service Award. The Fasolds have been involved for decades with a wide variety of community projects, including the annual Selinsgrove calendar, the Shade Tree Commission, the annual Hops, Vines & Wines Festival and Market Street Festival, to name a few. Fasold has also collected and taken thousands of photographs depicting the history of Selinsgrove. They can be viewed by the public via the Selinsgrove Library's website. The Selinsgrove Rotary Club held their annual 4-Way Speech Contest at Selinsgrove Area High School. Participants are challenged to incorporate Rotary's 4-Way Test into their speeches. That test asks, Is it the Truth? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? And, will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
