August 27, 2020:  21 Rotarians (20) in-person (1) via zoom and and (3) guests joined us for our social distant lunch meeting at the SVCC to hear Benjamin (Ben) Williard, CFO of Family Practice Center, PC. (FPC) Ben was introduced by his host, Ken Miller.  Ben has been with Family Practice Center for 5 years and has lived in Selinsgrove for 1 year, with his wife, who is a physician’s assistant with FP in Mifflinburg. FPC is a large group of primary care physicians in Central Pennsylvania. They have 40 primary locations in 12 counties and see more than 200,000 patients a year. Their goal is to meet the healthcare needs of people in our region. Ben described FPC as the “trunk that holds all the branch offices together.” FPC recently bought the old Sears building (110,000 sq. ft.) at the Susquehanna Valley Mall; but sign a 50 year lease on the land that can be renewed for another 50 years.  On this site, they offer a Laboratory, Sleep Lab, Occupational Medicine, Behavioral Health, Physical Therapy, and Wellness. In addition, HUB’s Home Oxygen and Medical Supplies has opened another location there too. Ben shared that they have a new state of the art Beckman DxA 5000, the first and only machine in North America and professionals come from all over the world to view this equipment. The machine reduces turnaround time up to 25% and is designed to identify up to 70% of the most common pre-analytical errors. He referred to FPC as an urgent care facility on steroids. They have partnered with Geisinger and are focused on being the access point for the elderly population; to help reduce unnecessary transfers to the emergency room and overnight admissions to the hospital. In addition to enhancing telemedicine for physicians to optimize and enhance specialty care. We are very fortunate to have such great health care options in our area.

Announcements: The club has received a membership renewal application from Shawn Felty to join our Selinsgrove Area Rotary Club. As part of our review of new, transfer or returning member applicants, please share any comments, if any, with our President, Dan Mahoney before our next meeting on September 3rd. A discussion will take place at our Board meeting on that date.

Sergeant at Arms:  Marv Rudnitsky provided some humor and collected $28.00 in happy fines.  Again, with social distancing, and masks being worn, I may have missed a few.
