Vol. 93, No. 9 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan
Next Meeting: September 10, 2020 – Dr. Frank Jankowski, Superintendent of Selinsgrove Area School District. Marv Rudnitsky, host
September 3, 2020: 21 Rotarians and (3) guests joined us for our social distant lunch meeting at SVCC. Host, Charlie McCuen, introduced Dr. Pagana. Dr. Pagana, and his family are well known by most everyone and has been practicing family medicine for 48 years. He is very involved in “A Community Clinic, Inc.” located in Sunbury. The clinic has been around since 2002 and provides free health care for those that are uninsured and low income. He shared that he gets a lot of credit but there are many others who volunteer as much time if not more at the clinic. The clinic has a wonderful relationship with Evangelical and Geisinger who recently provided them with a $2,000 ultra sound machine; in addition to having medical residents at the clinic. The clinic provides services to help residents of Montour, Northumberland, Union and Snyder counties. Working with the drug companies, the clinic is also able to help provide those who are unable to obtain/afford prescription drugs. He mentioned that they rely on funding through the Degenstein Foundation but they do receive donations and that some patients even felt compelled to send small checks of $10 when they can. Though he has taught, in the medical field, it is something he would rather not do and prefers to see patients. He mentioned COVID and said it is very real and he actually does not go out much due his own compromised system. Everyone should be following social distancing, handwashing and wearing your mask. He also shared that in order to stay healthy, we should all be watching what we eat (beans, greens and protein) and getting some exercise daily. Marty Blessing shared this month’s book selection, in the name of our speaker: The Room Where It Happens by John Bolton.
Announcements: 1) President Dan acknowledge, in addition to our speaker, guests Chapin Jones, who joined us for his 3rd week and Sarah Kowalski, Assistant District Governor. 2) Board approved the Car Show Committee to move forward with planning next summer’s fundraising event. 3) Golf Ball Drop Committee announced the event will be November 7th at 1:00pm. Tickets will be distributed to members next week to begin selling.
Sergeant at Arms: Marv Rudnitsky provided some humor and collected happy fines. Again, with social distancing, and masks being worn, I may have missed a few.
