Rotary Opens Opportunities

Oct. 1, 2029: Twenty-six Rotarians and guests (Kelly Feiler introduced Dave Helmer, new REC Ameri-Corp employee; Melissa Laniewski introduced Jodi Cope; and Cheryl Stumpf introduced Chapin Jones) were present to hear Nicole Peterson, Food Security coordinator of the Union-Snyder Community Action Agency describe her work and the need for such a program in our area. Working with the Central PA Food Bank and groups like the REC, Nicole identified the efforts needed to assist those living in poverty (approximately 11.8 % of a 40,000 population, more than 4000, including 1500 children according to pre-COVID figures). Numerous questions followed as members became acquainted with the depth of the problems in this area. Kelly Feiler was the host.  A board meeting preceded the regular meeting. President Dan has appointed the 2020-21 Officers and Directors Nominating Committee – Carol Handlan, Dave Lawer, and Art Bowen.

Announcements:Update on the Golf Ball Drop ticket sales – keep selling as this is our only fund raiser this year. *Oct. 24 0 World Polio Plus Day.**Dave Lawer reported on the 2021 Wheels in the Grove event – several logo designs under review and planning continues.***Ken Miller reported that DB Construction has contributed work and materials to fill in a dip in the ground by the building.
