Vol. 93, No. 14 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan

Next Meeting: Oct. 22, 2020 – The Distinguished Service Award Luncheon honoring Bo and Joan Fasold. Art Bowen, host. At SVCC in the ballroom.

Oct. 15, 2029: 21 Rotarians and 3 guests joined us for our social distant lunch meeting at SVCC. Unfortunately, Jennifer Hain could not attend but Wesley Knapp, host, introduced Joe Weisser and Tom Boyer who attended in her absence for SUN Technical Institute. SUN stand for Snyder, Union and Northumberland counties. The school was established in 1971. Joe and Tom provided an overview and video of their 18 programs offered at SUN Tech. Because of COVID-19 they were forced to a hybrid schedule and have been struggling with outside service projects but overall, they are managing quite well with their virtual programming for the more than 300 students; which they continue to see increasing. Many of their students continue on in a post secondary school or go directly into employment, since many leave with their necessary certifications. For example, students leaving the welding program are currently starting at $17 an hour and their diesel mechanics are starting at $25 an hour. Joe challenged the club for someone to volunteer in a virtual welder competition for a $250 prize to the winner.  President Dan Mahoney took the challenge.

Announcements:  1) Dan recognized our guest, Jodi Cope and asked Wes to recognize our speakers, Joe Weisser and Tom Boyer. 2) Art provided an update on the Golf Ball Drop ticket sales.  Art also reminded everyone of next weeks Distinguished Service Award. If you plan on attending and were not at this meeting, please let Art know, so we have a head count. 3) The board has accepted the membership application of Chapin Jones and would like any comments or concerns sent to President Mahoney.
