Vol. 93, No. 17 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan

Next Meeting: November 5, 2020 – Monty Anders, from the new 5-OH Creamery in Selinsgrove, will be our speaker. John Fischer is the host.  At SVCC.

Oct. 29, 2029: 21 Rotarians and 3 guests joined us for a social distant lunch meeting at SVCC to hear Linda Rowe and Kim McCarty of the new Geisinger’s 65 Forward program and location in Shamokin Dam. This location just opened, along with new locations in Wilkes-Barre and Hazelton. There are currently two existing locations in Kingston and Scranton but Geisinger plans to open additional facilities in the near future.  This new model focuses on seniors who are over 65 years in age; offering a new approach to primary care. Seniors get more time with their doctor, a team of healthcare experts to work with and access to wellness activities.  There are two full-time doctors on staff (no physician assistants or nurse practitioners) that you get to meet with, who will be able to devote more time with you to address your questions, concerns and care. The doctors each see only 450 patients a year. The facility offers a hotel like, social atmosphere, with everything under one roof. You can come and just enjoy coffee, conversation and lunch, or many other activities such as crafting, games, gym facilities, exercise classes including yoga, and education programs, such as cooking and wellness. In addition to seeing your doctor, they offer all of the following services on site: lab, radiology, nutrition, behavioral, pharmacy assistance, community support, and more.  Their whole concept is patient focused with trying to keep seniors out of the emergency room and hospital stays.  You will be able to take advantages of the programs for up to one year before being asked to join Geisinger’s health insurance plan.
