Vol. 93, No. 18 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan
Next Meeting: November 12, 2020 – Club Assembly – Dan Mahoney, host. 11:45am at SVCC.
Nov. 5, 2020: 21 Rotarians and 3 guests joined us for a social distant lunch meeting at SVCC to hear Monty Anders, who was introduces by host, John Fischer. Monty grew up in Mifflin County and entered the Navy after high school. He was a submariner and shared what that was like. After the Navy, he joined the state police and was a PA State Trooper for 20 years before retiring and is currently a Selinsgrove Police Officer and a Captain with DH&L. He resides in Selinsgrove with his blended family; marrying his wife who had 3 children and he also had 3 children and they also have 2 grandchildren. Monty and his wife recently started their business, 5-OH Creamery in the former Taste of Philly building on Water Street; opening in July. It was a delight to hear the story behind how they decided to go into this business and all the research and work they did, as a family, to make it happen. The name, came from the old TV show, Hawaii Five-0, and the law enforcement theme is throughout their business with sizes termed: Warning, Misdemeanor, or Felony; with toppings, such as, sprinkles, referred to as Evidence. They have 24 varieties of hand dipped hard ice cream, along with vanilla and chocolate soft ice cream. They also serve milkshakes and are able to make their own blends by adding spices, etc., like Pumpkin and Peanut Butter. They have managed through the pandemic and will continue to remain open, as the season changes, with new hours beginning November 16 on Friday 5:30-8:30, Saturday 3:00-8:00pm and Sunday 3:00-8:00pm. Other changes are planned. They are hoping to be able to open the inside for ordering, rather than just using the outside walk-up window, and exploring seating options along Penns Creek and/or benches along the front. Great addition to the downtown and we were all fortunate to be able to sample some great chocolate ice cream.
