Vol. 93, No. 31 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan

Next Meeting – March 11 – Dan Mahoney, host. Dr. Larry Gessner, ER Physician at Evangelical Community Hospital

March 4, 2021: 19 Rotarians joined us via zoom, to hear Jodi Cope give her classification talk.  She was introduced by host, Melissa Laniewski. Unfortunately, I lost my internet connection and did miss some of Jodi’s conversation but many of you know Jodi very well. Jodi is married to Dr. James Cope and together they work at their Selinsgrove Dental Arts business practice. They have 18 employees and she is the practices’ manager. They have three sons; Matt, Jonny and Ricky.  She mentioned that her husband was a former Rotarian. Jodi shared that 26 years ago she had worked for John Fischer and saw how giving and caring he was with other organizations and that influenced her in wanting to contribute and give back too.  She had left her work with John to raise her three children. Now that they are grown, she decided that the time is right for her to give more time back to the community and she is extremely pleased to have joined our Rotary Club. Jody has served, as a volunteer, on Selinsgrove’s borough Parks and Recreation Board and has been a supporter of our Mallet Madness event and Selinsgrove Summer Seals.

Announcements: 1) President Dan shared that the Rotary Board met and had a good meeting. Some of the discussion topics were that our club should have more of a Facebook presence; gathering more information on John Taylor’s water project in El Salvador and could our club help in any way; and our outdoor events (Mallet Madness, Wheels in the Grove, Golf Ball Drop and Golf Outing) are all moving forward. 2) Marv Rudnitsky shared that Kaylee Snyder a senior at SAHS, passed all her interviews and will be our outbound abroad student this year; assuming everything aligns with COVID-19 requirements. 3) Marv Rudnitsky also stated the 4-Way Rotary Speech Contest took place and he thanked Pat Pinkowski, Tom Gates and Dottie Anderson for their role as judges. Letters have been sent out to the winners, who received $100, $50 and $25 respectively for finishing.  The first place winner was Alison Rousu. In addition, Marv mentioned that the Regional Speech finals will be held in a special session for the participants only (due to COVID-19) at Penn State and video taped. The first place award is $1,000 and second place is $500.

Sergeant at Arms:  Marv Rudnitsky provided a bit of humor. He collected happy fines from Carol

(covid shot and Ken Miller for elk steaks), Tom (scholarships and Marv’s work on 4-Way Speech), Art (off oxygen, Raven), Dave (scholarships and John Fischer), Pat (covid shot and scholarships) Dan (car show and showing his brother’s car), Marv (covid shot), John F. (Florida trip), Raven (covid shot, Jodi, and Jose/Lilly international students). Sorry if I missed anyone or what was said.
