Vol. 93, No. 37 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan

Next Meeting – April 29 – Carol Handlan, host.  Kevin Dressler, will speak on the Saturday Selinsgrove Farmers’ Market.

April 22, 2021: 15 Fellow Rotarians joined via zoom, to hear Melanie Garrison of the YMCA speak. Melanie was a marketing manager with Weis Markets for a number of years and is the current communication coordinator for the YMCA and also started leading group exercise classes in 1992. Melanie loves anything related to exercise and fitness and her hobbies include golf and fishing.  She shared how tough the past year has been as a result of the pandemic, with many virtual classes and programs being held. However, things are starting to change and they are back to about 50% attendance; stating the percentage has been impacted because they are still not offering child care. She is all about health and fitness and believes people, especially seniors, should be doing some form of exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Melanie actually demonstrated some balance and stretching exercises that we could easily do in our home. The YMCA is a non-profit organization that depends heavily on grant funding, donations and she shared how wonderful and generous local businesses, like, Dominos, Weis Market, Jersey Mikes and Walmart have been.  We joked about the Rotary members spend one of our weekly meetings taking one of Melanie’s classes.

Announcements: 1) President Dan announced that we will resume meeting in-person at Isabella’s. Rotarian Stacey Napoli and her husband have agreed to host our lunch meetings. Our club will be the only ones in the restaurant and Isabella’s does follow all COVID guidelines. Masks are expected to be worn when not eating/drinking. The meetings will no longer be available via ZOOM.  President Dan will also be reaching out to fellow members to ensure that they know of this change and to get a head count for our next meeting, so they can prepare enough meals for the club. 2) Tom Gates and Dave Lawer provided a brief update on The Wheels in the Grove event. The big news was that they did secure a Gold Sponsor. The Speedway will be participating and it’s their 75th year and will be showing some race cars at the event as well. Their track announcer will be speaking to our club in May. More promotion of the event is planned. 3) Marv Rudnitsky mentioned that SAHS Young American, Eli Markle, will be joining us next.  He also recognized Gary Gonsar is celebrating a birthday this week.
