Vol. 93, No. 38 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan
Next Meeting – May 6 – Bob Bertram, host. Ben Reichley, will speak origin and growth of LBWater.
April 29, 2021: 27 Fellow Rotarians and 3 guests joined as Isabella’s, to hear local farmer and co-chair of the Selinsgrove Farmers’ Market, Kevin Dressler speak. Kevin co-chairs the market with Sara Lauver. He provided a brief history of how the market has grown from 3 vendors in 2012 to more than 16 vendors now. The Farmers’ Market is an operating arm under Selinsgrove Projects, Inc, (SPI). Their market committee has been working diligently to ensure the market opening day, May 15th, will be memorable and set the tone for the rest of the summer. The market is from 9 am to 1 pm every Saturday from May through October with a holiday market in November and December. They will be having live music entertainment every Saturday from 10am -12pm on the Commons’ stage. Because of cost increases, they needed to raise the vendor fee to $100 but that is for the entire season; which is very reasonable. They try and be flexible with their vendor scheduling and have some that will be there every week, some every other week and some once a month or for special events. Their goal has been to try and keep everything locally grown and made. They work closely with the downtown restaurants in providing local produce to them as well. A great point that Kevin made was training the customers, so they are knowledgeable of what is available and when. If you want fresh produce, farm raised meats, flowers, plants, soap, alpaca made items, eggs, craft brews, baked goods, and so much more, meet them at the market on Saturday!! For more information, and weekly updates, you can follow them on Facebook at Selinsgrove Farmers Market.
