Vol. 93, No. 40 – President – Dan Mahoney – Editor – Carol Handlan
Next Meeting – May 20 – Dave Lauver, host – Introduction of 2021 Scholarship Recipients
May 13, 2021: 21 fellow Rotarians and 3 guests joined as Isabella’s, to hear Snyder County Commissioner and fellow Rotarian, Adam Ewig provide an update on county activities and initiatives. Prior to his election as county commissioner, Adam served in a variety of public and private roles; including 6 years on borough council in McClure and 2 years as Mayor of the borough. He also worked at DPW for 13 years and at the Snyder County and Central Susquehanna Regional 911 service for 9 years. He continues as EMS Chief for the Beaver Springs Fire Department since 2009. Adam shared that the county was able to secure funding of $800,000 that will be used toward improving/providing broadband to the west end of the county. The county also recently set up a vaccination clinic at the State School and they vaccinated 1,500 citizens; while also partnering with DH&L to offer vaccinations to individuals who were homebound. Recycling is another hot issue that the county commissioners are tackling and meeting with municipalities to try and find away to recycle while trying to keep the costs down. The county has also partnered with Union-Snyder Community Action Agency to administer over $5 million in grant funding to provide rental/utility assistance to those that qualify. This money would assist residents with unpaid rent or utility bills due to the impact of covid-19. Unfortunately, not everyone is taking advantage of this help. He also shared that Snyder county still has roughly $265,000 in funding for businesses in the restaurant and hospitality industry to award. Adam stayed around and answered individual questions and a number of Rotarians came up and introduced themselves; which was really nice.
