November 3, 2011: Thirty-one Rotarians and guests were present for this
“celebration” of Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week. Hal Schriver introduced the
program, Chris Lupolt, Selinsgrove High’s guidance counselor, introduced six
students from the district who attended PFEW this past summer: Kealy Howell,
MiKayla Kuhns, Kristy Richard, Abby Reed, Ruth Mengstead, and Kristin Gilson.
Each student spoke about their experiences (developing a product, financing it,
advertising it, learning about team work and all the components it takes to run
a business, making good friends, hearing motivational speakers). Charlie Ross,
Chamber of Commerce CEO spoke about the Chambers high priority on education and
shared reasons support of this program is important. Hal Schriver noted that
Mid-West also had students attend this past summer. Scholarships were provided
by the Club, Northumberland National Bank, Wood-mode, Waste Management, the
Chamber, and SACC in addition to other businesses and individuals.

 

Announcements: The
Book selected for Club’s Tree Fest tree is Mouse Soup by Arnold Lobel.*Nominations
Committee (Donna Schuck, Wesley Knapp, and John Stokinger) will be reporting
shortly with first call for nominations from the floor to occur 11/10.**Mike
Damiano and Don Summers announced that Dictionary Distribution will occur 11/21
at 10:25 a.m. Please let one of them know if you can help with this event.

Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information from District 9200,
East Africa, where clubs distributed 18 tons of food and water to draught
stricken villages in northern Kenya.

Sergeant at arms: Konrad Kempfe collected
fines as follows: Donna Schuck (happy birthday, and for Charlie Ross); Art
Bowen (PFEW students and being back); Hal Schriver (PFEW); Charlie Ross (back
at you); Pat Pinkowski (speakers and students); and Wesley Knapp (students,
reporter, Donna’s BD).
