December 22, 2011: Twenty-three Rotarians and guests were present for
this program presented by Midd-West students who attended Free Enterprise Week
at Lycoming College. Midd-West School District Superintendent Wesley Knapp
hosted. Marshall Dupry hopes to attend Univ. of Maryland, eventually obtaining
an MBA. He especially valued learning about ethics and how to run a business.
Miranda Heeter appreciated the way in which this was a “real” world experience
and hopes to eventually run her own business. Sarah Deppen especially enjoyed
the motivational speakers. She plans to become a guidance counselor. Jennifer
Elliott, experienced being the “only person” – that is, no one she knew
attended the same week. She values learning how easy it is to make friends and
to work with new people. She plans a double major in Business and
Education.Also in attendance was the
high school’s Assistant Principal, Todd Vankirk. President Pat gave a present
to our regular waitress, Brittany, to thank her for her work on the Club’s
behalf.

 

Announcements: Thanks are
extended to Hal Schriver for his hard work in organizing and working the
Salvation Army Bell Ringing.* Joyce Anderson received $385 toward the purchase of gifts,
clothing and household items for our Christmas Family of 4 (including an 18
month old boy and 6 year old girl). This family lost all of their belongings in
the flood. Joyce has delivered presents to the family and will be going a
second time to deliver more to this very grateful family.**Pat Pinkowski
announced that Mimi Rice is looking for hosts for 3 students from Japan who
will be here 1/31 to 3/21. A stipend is provided. Ask Pat for additional
information or contact Mimi directly.***Club will meet at BJ’s all of Jan.,
Feb., and March. A salad or other entre will be available at each meeting.

 

Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe spoke about RI’s progress in raising
money for Polio Plus, at 1.9 on a 2 million challenge from the Gates
Foundation.

12 – Club Assembly – Sharing results of the District Survey completed by those
in attendance 12/22 – 11:45 a.m., BJ’s, Selinsgrove. Board of Director’s
Meeting follows.

19 – Judge Harold Woelfel, Jr. will speak. Mike Flock is the host. 11:45 a.m.,
BJ’s, Selinsgrove.

26 – Urban/Rural Night, 6:15 p.m., Jerry Rhoads is the host, Christ Community
Church. Signup sheet will be circulated. Partners, guests are welcome.
